Association for Sustainable Development and Cooperation “ALKA” – Skopje is association of citizens created on 13.04.2004. initiated by the group of colleagues, members of Integral Rural Development Unit (IRDU), employed by ACTED .
Followed by the need to support development of civil society in Republic of Macedonia, many international NGO’s opened their offices in the second half of 1990’s.
In 1998. British NGO CAD established office in Skopje for their operations in Republic of Macedonia. Inside the office, in 2000 team for Rural Water supply and Health Education was created. This team focused their activities only in development projects. We think that this team was foundation for start and development of organization later named Alka.
April 2001 team transforms in Integral Rural Development Unit – IRDU. During 2001-2002 IRDU implemented project for rural development funded by SIDA worth total US$ 600 000,00.
June 2002 CAD ends its mission in Macedonia. Due to excellent results achieved by IRDU, SIDA continues to support the team. In order to continue with their activities, team works as part of ACTED.
During June 2002 until June 2004 team implements project for Integral Rural Development funded by SIDA worth 1 600 000,00 €.
As result in previous activities, shown need for further development in civil sector, association of citizens and society as a whole, members of IRDU in April 2004 formed local NGO – Association for Sustainable Development and Association “Alka”.
Alka, a new local NGO submits project proposal to SIDA. SIDA approves this project for financing and implementation. Name of the project is Program for Integral Development of Rural Communities and ends its implementation in June 2007.
ALKA’S VALUES
